Washington, DC - April 17, 2012-  The Partnership for 21st Century Skills (P21) - the leading national organization advocating for 21st century readiness for every student - welcomes Stephan Turnipseed, President, LEGO® Education North America, as a strategic council member. He replaces Jacob Kragh, President, LEGO Education who previously served on the council.

“We are very excited to add Mr. Turnipseed’s expertise to the P21 Strategic Council to expand LEGO’s engagement with P21.” said Lil Kellogg, Chair of P21 and Vice President of Education Networks of America. “They provide resources for students that are engaging and relevant, offering real-life applications of science, technology, engineering, math, humanities, and literacy. These resources are well aligned to the P21 Framework for 21st Century Learning, giving students the skills they need to solve real-world problems.”

LEGO Education draws on its rich 30-year history in education to develop specialized hands-on learning tools, curriculum resources, and lesson plans to enable every student to succeed. The company provides extensive teacher training and support to ensure the resources are used fully. The familiar LEGO brick is combined with academically relevant content to help make learning exciting and engaging.

“LEGO Education believes a hands-on, minds-on approach helps students actively take ownership of the learning process and develop 21st century skills such as creative thinking and problem solving through real-life, engaging experiences.” says Turnipseed. “We are excited to join P21, helping equip our educators with the tools to facilitate and improve students’ learning process by challenging them to think critically while allowing them to learn creatively.”

As a catalyst organization in the 21st Century Skills Movement, P21 works with education leaders, the business community, and state and federal policymakers to ensure that the U.S. education system equips students with rigorous content knowledge and the skills they need for college, career, and citizenship.

About P21: P21 is a national organization that advocates for 21stcentury readiness for every student. As the United States continues to compete in a global economy that demands innovation, P21 and its members provide tools and resources to help the U.S. education system keep up by fusing the 3Rs (core academic content) and 4Cs (critical thinking and problem solving, communication, collaboration and creativity and innovation). While leading districts and schools are already doing this, P21 advocates for local, state and federal policies that support this approach for every school.
