Description: A Common Language Creates an Uncommon Bond is a video of a Japanese language partial immersion program at Richmond Elementary School in Portland, Oregon. Students spend half of the day in Japanese immersion, and the other half in English. The school also supports and exchange program for Japanese students to visit the school and stay with host families for 2 weeks while they attend classes and for Richmond students to visit a school in Japan. Teachers and parents discuss student work and the immersion process as well as the ways in which students benefit from immersion learning in terms of developing different perspectives and being able to take on different roles.
